StandardAero Celebrates a Centennial of Service

2011 is a very special year for StandardAero. It marks the 100th anniversary of the company that started in Winnipeg, Canada in 1911. Established as Standard Machine Works – a small automotive engine repair shop founded by William S. Bickell and Charles F. Pearce – the company quickly expanded to include in its repertoire of services, repair and overhaul of engines for general aviation and military aircraft. Since then StandardAero has grown into one of the world’s largest independent providers of aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services including engine and airframe repair and overhaul, engine component repair, engineering services, interior completions and paint, among a diverse array of customers in business and general aviation, airline, military, energy and VIP completions markets.

Within the business aviation community, StandardAero’s lineage is among the who’s who in aviation MRO. Its history as Garrett Aviation Services dates back to the origins of the company’s namesake, Cliff Garrett and his success with gas turbines, turbochargers, hydraulics and environmental controls systems, to name a few. In addition, Associated Air Center, the company's large transport VIP completions center in Dallas, Texas has long been known for its quality and craftsmanship and a leader in the VIP completions market working on Boeing Business Jest (BBJs) and Airbus Corporate Jest (ACJs).

StandardAero forms a global service network of 12 primary facilities throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe, Singapore and Australia, and has an additional 14 regionally located service and support locations. Throughout the year, the company will be hosting its Centennial Celebration among all of its global facilities. Each site will be recognizing the company’s legacy of contributions within the general aviation industry and celebrating the people – past, present and future – who have contributed to the quality reputation and standard of excellence for which the company has come to be known.

2011 is planned to be an exciting year for the company and another rewarding year for customers as the company continues to improve its processes, focus on its customers and deliver excellence in its services.

Happy birthday StandardAero!
