Safe, Healthy Workplaces Produce Higher Quality Products, Services
Safety matters. Businesses spend $170 billion a year on costs associated with occupational injuries and illnesses, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The injuries and illnesses increase workers' compensation and retraining costs, absenteeism and faulty products, all of which are directly felt by customers.
Workplaces with established health and safety systems build consistency and reliability, promote productivity, reduce costs and increase employee morale. In short, when employees are safe and healthy it shows in their work. Whether you need an inspection or repair, skilled troubleshooting or routine maintenance, a focused team of experts delivers better results.
Every StandardAero location operates under strict health and safety guidelines and works closely with OSHA, participating in voluntary programs that go above and beyond normal requirements.
For more than a year now, StandardAero Houston’s (IAH) personnel have completed their tasks in and around aircraft, on the tarmac, on the hangar floor and throughout the entire bustling service center without a single injury.
“At the end of July, Houston was at 414 days without a recordable injury. Our employees have worked together to reach this goal. Currently, IAH’s best is two years. We’re headed for our next goal of three years,” said Rick Gurgos, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) manager.
Fewer workdays missed due to injury means StandardAero’s teams are intact day after day, providing consistent customer service, meeting deadlines and reducing costs.
In June, StandardAero’s Los Angeles service center (LAX) received a STAR designation, OSHA’s highest level of certification in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Meeting STAR criteria goes beyond basic OSHA standards.
Businesses that participate in the VPP program have 50 percent fewer lost workday injuries and illnesses than the average for their industry and incidence rates 50 percent below the national average, according to OSHA.
Through VPP STAR, StandardAero’s state-of-the-art safe and healthy work setting is more efficient and productive, allowing employees to provide exceptional service. Plus, with policies, procedures and best practices in place, a VPP site ensures customers’ assets are safe and secure.
Only 73 sites in California currently hold VPP STAR status.
