Unapproved Parts Cost Operators
In recent years, some repair station owners and aircraft parts distributors have chosen to utilize undocumented, unapproved or counterfeit parts in aircraft maintenance and repairs. Several individuals have been convicted of this unlawful and dangerous practice.
To help guard against use of unapproved parts, the FAA created a special Suspected Unapproved Parts program in 1995. But, with few FAA inspectors to oversee and enforce the program, customers are left to trust their repair station.
Your first line of defense is a reputable, well-established service center with well-defined procedures and guidelines in place. StandardAero employs strict compliance with federal regulations, industry best practices and chain of custody documentation requirements. Our service centers work closely with the FAA to ensure our parts inventories don’t contain suspected unapproved parts.
Highly skilled technicians offer added protection. Experienced technicians like those at StandardAero handle thousands of parts every year. They know what to look for and are alert to discrepancies.
Lastly, be an informed consumer. As you request maintenance and repair services, ask questions about which parts need to be FAA-approved or certified by the original equipment manufacturer.
